In late April 2017, Twitch invited me to become an affiliate. What affiliate status provided me at first was the ability to accept bits — These are virtual representations of cents or dollars that viewers could purchase and use to reward me. And after a brief period, I received the coveted subscribe button! <\/p>\n

Subscriptions are a way for viewers to show their support to a Twitch broadcaster by signing up for a monthly fee ($4.99, $9.99 or $24.99) in return for ad-free viewing, use of a Twitch-wide emote, and some cool perks from the broadcaster. In my case, subscribers receive additional in-stream currency, ability to post links in chat, and a discount at my Etsy store. And then there’s the SubTree.<\/p>\n

A while back, I had expressed interest in yarn-bombing<\/a> a coat rack. And then the plan mutated. And it became this:<\/p>\n

As I get more and more subscribers, more sub-stripes are added to the “tree” — which eventually became known as the SubTree. Subscribers get to watch me make their sub-stripe on stream and in most cases sew it onto the tree. I also write and draw on their name tag, so each name tag is unique. Viewers have enjoyed seeing the SubTree grow over the past couple of months, and are encouraged that I’m quickly running out of room at the base of the coat rack. I’m working on new ways to reward subscribers with a different knitted item each month. For instance, the second month, subscribers receive a 2nd, narrower purple band. In future months, we may add things like knitted leaves, ornaments, a knitted garland — we’ll keep it going until I run out of space or ways to add fabric. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
