Hats & Scarves For Charity

From The Heart Stitchers has received the first batch of donations shipped to them! This particular batch of scarves and hats was to support a Veterans Encampment in Ashland, VA. I want to thank two of my viewers, Probability Distribution and Siliun, for funding the yarn used in these projects. From The Heart Stitchers was very appreciative of the donations and said they’d be delivered to the group shortly.

Here’s a photo of what went in the shipment – 6 hats and 2 scarves:

I’m really happy the items made it and will help out some folks in need. We all need more good news like this. 🙂

It’s Starting To Smell A Lot Like… Writing

It’s getting close to that time of year… No, not the holidays! National Novel Writing Month!

I’ve done no prep, I’ve barely managed to check in with my home region on the NaNoWriMo boards, but I guess I’m pushing forward. I’ve hesitated signing up for 2017. Between the broadcasting, and the business stuff, and the house duties — plus working around my husband who has also begun working from home full time; there’s not a ton of time to slot writing 50K words into the mix. But I really don’t want to end the streak: I’ve participated in NaNoWriMo since 2004 – 12 of those years I successfully crossed the 50K line. Taking a year off from it feels wrong, even if I have been saying for most of the year that I’m not sure I can handle the challenge this year.

I guess we’ll find out. 😉

Fall is Here!

So it’s officially fall! Of course, mother nature is going to give us 90 degree days after a stretch of gorgeous sunny days in the 70’s. But the leaves are changing – starting to turn from a bright green to those lovely shades of red and gold.

I’ve spent some time working out a pattern for leaves that I can attach to my Twitch channel subscriber SubTree. Today I tried my hand at crochet, with some mild success. The leaves still need some work, as do my tension and overall crochet skills, but it’s a start.

The Great Slippers Experiment

I’ve been attempting to make a pair of slippers using cotton yarn. The problem is, while I’ve made these in acrylic previously with great results; the cotton yarn stretches too much and makes the slippers enormous. I’ve gone from US 6 to US 4 DPNs and am seeing some success now. The below is my latest attempt.

Now to wind a fresh yarn cake in Violet Splash and see what happens when using the yarn I really want to use for this project. 🙂

El Senor Snarky Jingle Snake Jr

One of my viewers, BunKnits , suggested I come up with a tiny version of the Snarky Snake to use as a reward with my Twitch broadcast Revlo currency. I loved this idea, and got to work on it during a couple of my recent broadcasts. The result: El Senor Snarky Jingle Snake Jr!

The pattern gave me a little trouble though. This was knitted in the round, as the others were, using US Size 4 DPNs (double-pointed needles) and remnant worsted weight yarn. It was difficult to turn the project inside out, which was necessary to stitch closed the head portion. It also proved difficult to embroider the snarky face onto the head – I’m working out an improved pattern to make this easier. But the viewers loved it, including BunKnits, and if they are happy, I’m happy. 🙂
